Haystack Road Bridge: A Milestone for Northeastern B.C.
Pacific Canbriam Energy is excited to announce the opening of the new Haystack Road Bridge over the Upper Halfway River in Northeastern B.C. This vital infrastructure enhances safety, connectivity, and resilience for local communities while replacing the aging structure that previously required a two-hour detour for vehicles.
Key Benefits of the Haystack Road Bridge:
- Emergency Access: Provides a crucial escape route for Halfway River First Nation (HRFN) and other community members, demonstrated during the 2023 wildfire evacuations.
- Economic and Cultural Connectivity: Enables ranchers to safely herd cattle, connects HRFN members to culturally significant areas, and supports outdoor activities and local events like the Halfway River Rodeo.
- Environmental and Operational Improvements: Reduces greenhouse gas emissions with shorter routes and upgrades 25 kilometers of Haystack Road to improve long-term durability and handle increased traffic.
Collaboration at Its Core
This project was made possible through partnerships with local vendors, Indigenous communities, and dedicated workers. Gravel was sourced locally from Hudson’s Hope, and earthworks were completed by Halfway River Ventures. Of the 17 workers involved, 11 were HRFN members, highlighting Pacific Canbriam Energy’s commitment to local engagement.
The new Haystack Road Bridge is more than infrastructure – it’s a lifeline for the region, strengthening connections, supporting businesses, and ensuring sustainability for years to come.
