Pacific Canbriam Passes Food Security Torch to CDN Controls

March 15, 2023

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — Pacific Canbriam Energy Limited (“Pacific Canbriam”) has been the proud sponsor of the Fort St. John Salvation Army Food Truck initiative for the past year. Today, the honour was passed to CDN Controls Ltd who will carry the torch this year.
The Fort St. John Salvation Army Food Truck initiative began with the goal of addressing food security challenges in the community. The truck picks up pre-packaged food, which would otherwise go to a landfill, that is then distributed via the local food bank. Local companies became aware of the Salvation Army’s initiative and decided to step up and support the great work the staff and volunteers do to address food security in the community.

It all started with Tourmaline Oil Corp. who carried the torch in 2020, they then passed the torch to Surepoint Group Ltd. in 2021, and then in 2022 Pacific Canbriam became the proud recipient.

“It’s been an honour for Pacific Canbriam to carry the torch in 2022. Food security is a real issue that so many people are challenged by, so being able to contribute to tackling this head on via the Fort St. John Salvation Army Food Truck initiative means a lot. Throughout the year, our team also participated in fundraising efforts and volunteered at the foodbank and local thrift store by helping stock shelves and organize donations. We proudly accepted the torch from Surepoint Group Ltd. last year, and now it’s time to pass it on.
“From sourcing food items, to distributing parcels, to helping unload the food truck, it’s that full circle approach that makes the Fort St. John Salvation Army Food Truck initiative so meaningful.

“The torch truly is the gift that keeps on giving. Today, we officially pass the honours over to CDN Controls who will carry the torch for 2023. We look forward to seeing the great things they do to further support this wonderful initiative in the local community,” said Donna Phillips, Executive Vice President, Corporate Development, Pacific Canbriam.

On receipt of the torch for 2023, Jennifer Ezekiel, CDN’s Vice President of Strategy and ESG added: “We are elated to be the 2023 torch bearer. Since its inception, this initiative has been fueled by the energy industry’s shared commitment to invest in the well-being of the communities where we operate. Our operations in Fort St. John have been an important part of the CDN story. As the 2023 torch bearer, we look forward to strengthening our relationship with this community and supporting the Salvation Army as best we can. We are grateful to Pacific Canbriam for choosing CDN—a testament to our strong relationship.”

“At The Salvation Army in Fort St John we recognize that we are the front door to meeting many of the greatest needs in our community. Many people are struggling to afford the essentials of life like food. But because of support and partnerships like that which we have with the Pass the Torch initiative, we have the confidence to meet those needs and take people from the front door of vulnerability to a place of hope for their future. We look forward to building the relationship with CDN Controls as we have with each committed business that has stood with us these past few years,” said Jared Braun, Executive Director, Fort St. John Salvation Army.
